An interview with our General Manager, Danka

Let's get the tea...

Hi Danka! Can you tell us a bit about your role and what you get up to each day please?

I always compare my role at the hotel as that of a graceful swan! With my feet paddling like mad under the surface to get everything done! No 2 days are the same – which I love. I wear so many hats on any given day and have to change my train of thought with every new challenge. I thrive from the varied tasks each day has while maintaining a cool and calm exterior.

Sounds exciting! So what is your favourite thing about your role?

It must be getting involved and interacting with the team I have here – we really are like one big family.

What are you most excited about in regard to the beautiful transformation your hotel is currently going through?

The main thing for me would be being part of our rebranding into a really fresh and modern product which is a complete contrast to the classic feel we had before.

Where do you see yourself and BBH in the next 5 years?

Having put my heart and soul into the rebranding project, I see no reason not to stick around and enjoy the success for some time to come. I have invested in my team, and I want to play an  integral part in all of their individual career paths.

Any advice for people wanting to become a General Manager?

It is a very rewarding position, but it is something that requires passion! This industry is not for everyone – I have to put my personal feelings to one side and make sure everything is about the guest journey. Taking each new situation and challenge with fresh eyes to ensure everything runs smoothly and seamlessly for the team and for the guests. The work is hard and the hours can be long, but hearing and reading great feedback about this hotel makes me very proud.
