About Burnham Beeches Hotel in Slough
A Royal experience in the Buckinghamshire countryside
Follow in the footsteps of Georgian aristocracy and explore a protected nature reserve that was once the hunting grounds of monarchs and an alluring hamlet for polite society.
Built in 1727 and formally known as Cant’s Hill, the Grand Manor House attracted many eminent visitors, including the English poet, Thomas Grey. It’s thought that he wrote his famous poem, ‘Elegy in a Country Churchyard’ while staying with his uncle who owned the house at the time.
Later, it became known as Burnham Grove and, at the beginning of the 20th Century, it was the home to the wealthy Clifton-Brown family, who loved to throw extravagant parties for their neighbours in Burnham Village.
Sadly, by the 1960’s the property had fallen into a state of disrepair and was in need of renovation. In 1965 it was bought and converted into a country house hotel, ready to welcome distinguished guests again, including the English National Football Team during Euro ’96.
Now, following further extensive refurbishment, the house has been returned to its original state of grandeur and offers visitors a taste of Georgian opulence. Thankfully, the surrounding reserve is intact, and the hotel retains 10 acres of private lawns and gardens for guests to enjoy. Its unique location, a tranquil oasis yet so accessible, is the perfect getaway for business and leisure.
